My favourite bookstore. The only thing missing from the Sydney branch is an English-language magazine section.

Great selection of books and almost every book I wanted to read was available for purchase. Cosy, large store with seats and a cafe adjacent to it. Easily accessible from the station. Prices aren't always competitive.

This is an impressive, large bookstore right next to Town Hall. Pretty much all the latest books across all interests. As its so large, I would recommend seeking out one of the friendly staff to find the book section or title you are after. They are very helpful and will almost always escort you to the right area. Sometimes the store can be a little messy but with that many books, it can't be avoided sometimes. There's also a nice cafe at the entrance as well for coffee, tea and fresh cakes.

Oh, this glorious store! I just love it. I visited regularly when I lived in Sydney and now make a point to return on every visit back. The range is just staggering, especially when it comes to art and design books. I consider it a feat of supernatural strength that I left this time without buying one or more recipe books; they have a huge number and they're ordered so well (by region, by style of cooking, etc).

Kinokuniya has the added bonus of an instore cafe by Black Star Pastry...make sure you try the strawberry watermelon cake!

A lot of the books are imports or ones slightly more difficult to find and priced accordingly, but there is a huge variety, not just Japanese. You can also eat and drink at the cafe inside there and become a member for a discount. Lots of natural light and generally quiet, you could spend hours going through all the different types of books/manga/literature/graphic novels/other language/children's books they have to offer.

Otherwise, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better collection of travel, design, art and architecture books in Sydney...if not Australia.

And then there's the stationery... I come for my fix of Uniball pens in multiple colours but again, that's restricting myself. You can get almost anything here, including gorgeous wrapping papers and a wide range of fun cards. Simply love this store.
