Open to public from Tuesday to Friday, 10.00 to 4.30. You cannot borrow the books from the library, but feel free to read there.

I love coming to this place for any historical research, friendly personal service. It is a small Research Library, specializing Australian/NSW/Sydney history. There are usually one or two librarians available, I'd recommend calling in advance and making an appointment with one of the librarians in order for them to be able to help you. Highly recommend an appointment if you're looking at something specific, give the librarians some time to pull books off the shelves or to acquaint themselves with the specific subject matter so they can give as much help as they can.

Designed like a fish bowl - so everyone working at the Sydney Living Museum HQ can peer at you through the glass - as you try to focus on your research. This is naturally disquieting. Staff are only as friendly as they need to be. No borrowing here - as is the case with the place up the road. No one trusts anyone anymore. No WiFi.

Saw the other reviews. I have been using this library for years when I have the time. It is a small quiet, old style library. Yes it has glass but hardly anyone is looking at you and if you are doing research, you won't notice anyway. The staff are very, very helpful and friendly. Because you can't borrow the books and magazines it means what you are looking for will most probably be available. I've found it to be an oasis of peace and quiet in the bustling CBD. It is what I call one of my happy places! It is a library for books rather than technology.
